Monaco will not sell Fabinho to PSG – opening the door for Manchester United to make a bid for the Brazilian, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho wants a defensive midfielder ahead of the new season and is closing in on a deal for Chelsea anchorman Nemanja Matic.
But that has not quelled intense speculation that Fabinho could also be on the way to Old Trafford after a stunning season with Monaco.
And, according to Corriere dello Sport, Mourinho is set to make an improved bid for the 23-year-old after ‘previously having an offer turned down’.
The report claims the Ligue 1 champions do not want to sell one of their prized assets to a title rival.
Fabinho, who is valued at around £35m, previously worked with Mourinho at Real Madrid and is also represented by Jorge Mendes.
But, despite all the speculation, United are not believed to be interested in signing the midfielder this summer.
It comes after Fabinho admitted that he would be tempted by a move to Old Trafford.
“It’s a tempting invitation,” Fabinho told Esporte Interativo. “I would first talk to my agent, Monaco too, to decide everything right.
“But it’s a great club, sure enough I would think well about it.”
